My First Week at University

Hello there, welcome to my Blog Site. This post series is about what I have learned and done in between my first and sixth weeks at SLIIT Academy. My batchmates and I had to make blog posts about what we have learned in our first to sixth weeks of the preparation course as an assignment for our Essential Communication Module and this is my one and I hope you will enjoy it. So as the starting post, today I would like to talk to you about what I learned in the first week of my University Preparation Course.

On the first day of our lectures at SLIIT Academy, Miss. Nideshika Ellepola gave us a warm welcome. Then she talked about how this course works and excited us all to know how this magic happens. After her lecture, we were all sent to studies without any delay.

Here, I have attached a Timetable made by me which will help you to better understand how our first week went.

So on the opening day, we had to learn the Essential Communication Skills subject as the first subject and it was a good start for anyone who doubted that they would be able to successfully complete the degree. Miss. Ishara Weerasinghe, Lecturer in English, was our Essential Communication Skills Lecturer and she is definitely a very friendly lecturer who knows how to work with students.

She told us to create a Blog with our details as the first activity of the day after we have learned how to start a discussion with each other. As a professional blogger, it was an easy task for me and I was able to finish it before others.

So that was the end of my first day at the University, and it was a wonderful experience for me as a one who was in a hurry to graduate as soon as possible. Our next day was a free day and after that day we had our lecture on Mathematics for Computing and Programming Concepts.

As a one who did ICT in his Ordinary Level Exam and became the section first in ICT subject at Richmond College and also as a one who loves Mathematics and ICT till his young and got A passes for both in the Ordinary Level Exam, Mathematics for Computing which was hold by Miss. Nideshika Ellepola was a too much easy subject for me even though I learned a lot of new methods to do calculations and conversions on there.

After that subject, as I told you before, the next subject was Programming Concepts. Miss. Ovini Seneviratne was our lecturer on that subject and it was a time to talk about the concepts of programming. That too was an easy subject for me cause I do programming since my childhood and now have good knowledge about that. I love to sit in front of my laptop and do coding for all day but my parents didn't allow me to do so by thinking that I would die before achieving my goals because coding affected my whole life and I forgot to eat, drink, sleep and also to do other activities as well.

In the next day, we had our lecture on Database Design and Concepts subject where Miss. Ruchira ManikkaArachchi was the lecturer. On that day we talked about what are the concepts of Databases and it too was not a new thing for me cause I have done a lot of great Projects and Websites which has Databases and used SQL as the Query Language and PHP as the Server Side Language.

After that lecture, our next lecture on Windows Application Development C# was delivered by Mr. Anuruddha Abeysinghe. Absolutely that was a great new experience for me as a one who has never worked with Windows Forms or even with C# Language yet. Till that day, I only did Android Application Development, Web App Development and Website Design and Development. But after that day, I was able to learn a lot of new things with the help of that lecturer and also as a result of my self studies.

On the very first day of Windows Application Development C# Subject, we learned how to install Visual Studio Software and later that we made several UI Designs on their using Labels and TextBoxes. After four weeks of that lecture, I was able to make a couple of UI Design Projects by myself and to do some coding parts of C# Language as well.

So I think that's all I have to say about what I learned in my first week at the University. I met a lot of new friends in this week and it was a great week for us to talk about each other and to be friendly with them all to start working together. All the lecturers tried their best to teach us well and all of us learned them quickly as how as we can.

See you in another post, thank you for reading and have a nice day.
