Overview
This session was led by Mrs. Ishara Raviharee, Assistant Lecturer at our university, who introduced us to the significance of dining etiquette or table manners. She explained how appropriate dining behavior reflects confidence, respect, and professionalism in both social and professional settings.
The session was highly engaging, featuring interactive group activities and role plays in a restaurant-like environment. Although many participants, including myself, felt a little hesitant at first, we gradually became more comfortable, enjoyed the activities, and learned valuable lessons through collaboration and feedback from the lecturer.
I came to understand that dining etiquette extends beyond eating politely; it is about fostering a welcoming environment, showing courtesy to others, and leaving a lasting positive impression.
Key Points
Good dining etiquette also involves maintaining proper hygiene and showing respect to others. It is important to wash hands before meals and to avoid wasting food by taking only what is needed. If one needs to cough or sneeze, it should be covered politely, or the person should excuse themselves from the table. Additionally, the napkin should be used gently to wipe the mouth, ensuring neatness and consideration for others.

What I Learned
From this session, I learned the proper way to sit, eat, and conduct myself at a dining table. It also taught me how to maintain polite and professional behavior in restaurants and formal dining situations. I gained practical knowledge on the correct use of utensils such as forks, knives, spoons, and napkins. Most importantly, I realized that dining etiquette is not merely a formality; it plays a key role in making others feel comfortable, respected, and valued.
